Who we are -
‘Loving Hands’ is very much a ‘hands-on’ ministry which came about five years ago when, in response to hearing about the dire need for clothing for new babies in the hospitals, we as a Library put out a basic all in one knitting pattern for our readers – shared the need and were staggered at the results!! One of our readers, Kerry Hall, then picked up the challenge and identified Sanford Maternity Hospital as the place which would benefit the most from the gift bags. They allowed us to visit the Moms, bless them with a gift and pray with them – if agreeable.
What we do-
Five years on and Loving Hands has moved with the Library into our new premises and operates from a ‘walk- in’ cupboard at the top of our stairs within the Children’s Library.
It is now under the very capable hands of Beryl Hall who puts together at least twenty bags a week – which are then taken to the hospital twice a week.
Our gift bags consist of a jersey, beanie, leggings, bootees, a blanket and toiletries for both Mom and Baby – comprising of disposable nappies, sanitary towels, wet wipes, baby powder, baby shampoo, nappy rash cream and baby oil.
Our ‘Golden-Oldies’ at Harvest Church, as well as many of our Harvest Resource Library readers knit and sew for the ministry and are more than generous in donations of either baby toiletries or money for wool/material etc.
The level of poverty is extreme and the Moms we meet are always so appreciative – many of the stories are heartbreaking, and it’s a small comfort to know some little one will have a warm blanket and clothing. Our heart is to grow the Ministry to the point that we are able to visit the Hospital on a daily basis and in order to do this we need help !!
What we need -
We would be grateful if the listeners would consider joining us in this project and you can be assured that all donations will be included in a gift pack which is then personally given to the new Mom.
Monetary donations are also gratefully received and go towards purchasing wool and material .
As a Ministry we operate under the covering of the Harvest Missions.
The Harvest Resource Library is the drop off point – and all queries can be directed to the Library as well – 041 581-3032
